Job Title: Product Manager – Small Business Software-as-a-Service

Location:  Rohnert Park or San Francisco, CA

(The company will be opening up an office in San Francisco later this year so either location would be an option although initially the role would be based in Rohnert Park)

Our client is a company with a mission. Their goal is to revolutionize how small businesses are managed. Until now, only big companies had access to the advanced software necessary to manage all aspects of a business from a single system. Our client here to change that! Their product allows small business owners to manage all aspects of a business from a single system, at a very affordable price. Using a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) delivery model, our client addresses the long-standing need for a comprehensive, easy-to-use business management system.

We are looking for a technical Product Manager who will drive all product management activities for this hosted business application.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

 

• Assume hands-on definition of new product features and enhancements from market research, competitive analysis, win/loss analysis and user testing feedback.
• Negotiate work with engineering and QA on release functionality and schedules.
• Make tradeoff decisions between functionality, resources and schedules as needed to ensure product leadership.
• Identify, negotiate and manage strategic partnerships with third-party software providers to build the product ecosystem.
• Follow and analyze industry trends, collect and analyze customer needs, collect and research competitive information.
• Support marketing and sales activities as needed, particularly to create marketing collateral and other sales tools.

 

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• At least 3 years of experience in product management focusing on “Software-as-a-Service”, ASP or hosted business applications.
• Demonstrated experience in requirements gathering, MRD/PRD writing, and project management.
• Track record of leading complete life cycles of winning products in a fast-paced environment - preferably in a small startup environment that has strong market-driven product development processes.
• Extensive experience and direct involvement with any of the following:

• Internet commerce or web-intensive businesses
• Backend software products, especially complex, mission-critical applications and web-based tools
• Service-related businesses serving large user communities

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer sciences or equivalent experience.
• Masters degree in engineering or MBA is a plus.
• Understanding of technologies, such as Ruby on Rails, web services (XML/SOAP), web-based graphical user interfaces, and relational databases.
• Experience working with outsourced development teams using Agile development methods.
• Excellent analytical skills.
• The ability to analyze each possibility, to separate edge-cases from core objectives, to assess trade-offs in light of what’s doable and to devise tests for assumptions and conclusions.

Responsibilities

Product marketing:

Forecasting and reporting:

Sr. Product Manager-WebEx Connect Marketplace and Partner Ecosystem 

Description:

Manage and drive requirements for the new and exciting WebEx Connect Marketplace, and work with other Product managers, engineering teams and product marketing in delivering a killer user experience for marketplace visitors, who are both business users as well as ISV partners that will be building applications on the WebEx Connect platform. 

 

Overall Responsibilities:

·          Define requirements via MRDs, and PRDs and functional design documents for the Connect Marketplace

·          Work with Connect partners (ISV and technology) to define collaborative applications that get listed in the marketplace

·          Manage the product team through the product development processes to ensure introduction of the product to market on time and on budget

·          Define the structure and UI of the marketplace by working with human factor engineering teams and marketing/communications.

·          Drive cross-functional initiatives that promote the marketplace and the Connect platform to partners, customers and developers.
Track Web 2.0 industry trends and networks with key influencers
Evangelize and educates internal and external audiences

Desired Qualifications & Experience:

·          BS or MS degree in Engineering, Sciences or Business, and/or equivalent experience relevant to functional area.

·          4 - 7  years experience in product management and/or product marketing with application software vendors

·          Strong experience with web applications and passion/knowledge of Web 2.0 trends

Product Line Manager, Linux for Mobile Handsets role at Wind River Systems!!!

(This full-time position is based in Alameda, California)

Linux solutions play a critical role in today’s embedded market. In a company with significant growth opportunities, you will be an integral part of a team creating a complete solution for the embedded market using Linux as a development host and target platform.

The Product Line Manager for Wind River Linux will focus on building our Linux RTOS strategy and product plan for the mobile handset industry - currently a fast growing and exciting Linux product. The product manager will own the complete product lifecycle deliverables including strategy, business plan, product requirements, product planning, positioning, pricing and sales enablement.

Responsibilities:

• Grow Wind River’s Linux in the Mobile Handset space.
• Understand embedded Linux device requirements and market characteristics, and translate this understanding into strategies, roadmaps, and product requirements for the networking industry.
• Develop business cases, Market Requirements Documents (MRD) and Product Requirement Documents (PRD).
• Own positioning, pricing strategies, and competitive activity related to the Linux platforms.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to deliver required products.
• Collaborate with partners to assemble appropriate value-added products and services.
• Support activities of corporate marketing and sales.

Job Requirements:

• 7 years in product management or product marketing, preferably in the mobile handset or mobile middleware space.
• Complete understanding of operating systems and tools used by the mobile handset industry in all stages of products.
• Knowledge of open source business models critical.
• 3+ years experience with Linux technologies, products, and open source including

1. Carrier grade Linux, runtime, kernel & tools technology experience
2. Strong knowledge of the market ecosystem including semiconductor partners, Linux on MIPS and Linux on PowerPC
3. Industry experience in mobile device market

• Experience with real-time embedded technologies a plus
• Excellent communication and presentation skills are required
• Strong analytical skills.

Product Line Manager, Hypervisor Virtualization for Device Software

Wind River is looking for a Product Line Manager to provide leadership for the Wind River virtualization product line.  The successful candidate must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. He or she must enjoy spending time in the marketplace to understand customer and partner problems, and to find and define innovative market solutions.  The candidate will own the complete product lifecycle deliverables including strategy, business plan, product requirements, product planning, positioning, pricing and sales enablement, and must be able to work cross-functionally to deliver the industry’s leading device software virtualization solution.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of seven years of proven high-level achievement in software product management with a track record in successfully and aggressively building a software business from scratch to $50M in revenue.  The individual will be very technical, experienced in articulating complex concepts to customers, prospects, industry analysts, partners and the press.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Defining the business opportunity and strategy
• Managing the entire product life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities
• Developing requirements for current and future products by visits to customers and partners, and broad market and industry research
• Lead feature development in the product development organization
• Support sales efforts as required including some travel
• Work with Product Marketing to create content for outbound marketing material
• Contribute to developing and implementing go-to-market plans, working with all departments to execute

Required Experience and Skills:

• Minimum seven years experience in Product Management

 Sr. Product Manager – Wind River Lab Diagnostics

(This full-time position is based in Alameda, California or from a West Coast based home office)

Wind River Device Management products enable OEMs to streamline QA testing and support processes by shortening the time to resolution of issues encountered by development teams, and ultimately, by users of deployed devices.   Lab Diagnostics enables OEMs to deploy quality products to market faster and Field Diagnostics increases uptime of deployed devices.

Device Management is a major growth initiative for Wind River and the Product Manager for Lab Diagnostics will influence near- and long-term revenue growth.  A successful Product Manager must be customer focused, working to understand OEMs’ business and technical challenges during system integration, software verification and product validation testing.   He/she must clearly document the problems and solutions in product requirement documents (PRDs) and be the voice of the customer during the development.  Coinciding with product releases, he/she must develop and execute on the rollout and launch plans.  Broad skills will be needed to plan out the long-term product vision to win in the market as well as be able to execute on the day-to-day decisions to successfully deliver.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Develop requirements and plan roadmaps through direct customer interaction, market research, competitive analysis, and by working with the sales force.
• Communicate and refine those requirements with the development team, and successfully guide product design, implementation, testing, and maintenance.
• Prepare and execute on go-to-market plans, including sales training, ecosystem awareness and outbound marketing.
• Support sales and corporate marketing efforts as required.  Some travel required.
• Generate content for outbound marketing material - i.e. product literature, benchmark, white papers, web seminars, etc.

Required Experience and Skills:

• BA/BS (computer science or engineering preferred) required, MBA or equivalent a plus.
• 5-7 years experience in leading efforts in the device software tool market such as product management, technical marketing, or field engineering.
  • Prior experience in software testing applications a plus.
  • Familiarity with embedded software and server applications a plus.
• Driven, with an entrepreneurial spirit and sense of urgency. Must be resourceful, proactive and aggressive.
• Natural leadership skills and the ability to work with all teams in the company.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented and possessing a high level of integrity.
