The deadline for submitting your information is today, Wednesday, July 18, 2007 midnight PDT.
This opportunity was previously posted last week.

Experiment1:
Get your professional information into Google
Caveat:
This is NOT an official job posting from Google

A colleague in product marketing and management at Google said that s/he would introduce 3 SPM Jobs members into the hiring process if I selected them myself. This is a bit unorthodox but I thought it was worth at least a one-time experiment. My contact states that the person s/he supplies these candidates to will either be an appropriate recruiter or the hiring manager (50/50 chance either way).
Here are the “rules”:
  • You must be a member of SPM Jobs (if you are not, just go to www.spmjobs.com Job Seeker section, verify that you qualify, and request to join as a Job Seeker).
  • You must answer the 3 questions below, and send them (or a link) plus a resume to experiment1@spmjobs.com by Wednesday July 18 midnight PDT. Please don’t spend more than 2 hours MAXIMUM working on this. I won’t start reviewing till the deadline has passed.
  • For an official Google job description of product marketing and management, visit their website.
Here is the selection process I will follow:

  • Glance at your resume for 10 seconds to see if it is presentable.
  • Carefully examine your input to the 3 questions, and choose the candidates based on creativity, insight, passion for the web 2.0, and overall interestingness.
  • Contact the top 3 candidates to verify that they still do want to be presented to my colleague…if yes, I will tell these candidates the name and title of my contact person. If any of these 3 has changed his/her mind, then I will select the next candidate(s) on my list.
  • Submit the information about the top 3 candidates to my contact. I will then destroy ALL information sent to me by everyone else. This is not an attempt to build a database of any kind. No one but me will be reviewing the information that is sent. I will provide feedback to the whole group on the success/failure of this experiment.
THE 3 QUESTIONS
(defined by Cynthia Typaldos, Founder & Manager, SPM Jobs)
[Answers can be supplied in any format you prefer, but it shouldn’t take me longer than 10 minutes to review]
  1. What is your presence on the Web? Point to it. [Note: Examples might be: Wikipedia author, Flickr group manager, Yahoo Groups participant/manager, social networking butterfly, widget/gadget collector, Amazon reviewer, Adsense/Adwords user, etc. etc. etc. Don’t limit yourself to these items though…what I am looking for is people who have immersed themselves (without drowning) in internet technology.]
  2. What do you think about the explosion of gadgets/widgets? Answer this in any way you find interesting, e.g. What is the evidence of an explosion? What type of gadgets/widgets are most attractive from a business perspective? Will these mini-applications fizzle out or are they the beginning of a new paradigm? [Suggestion: check out the Google website to learn about their new focus in this area.]
  3. Write a free form paragraph/example/video/whatever that demonstrates your ability to imagine, conceptualize, define, nurture, grow, launch, and manage unique internet services. It doesn’t matter if the example you use wasn’t successful...many brilliant products/services fail initially because of timing problems.
For those of you that submit your information, thanks for participating in this experiment.
For those of you that have feedback on this experiment, please email me directly or even better, post your comment on this job posting at www.spmjobsblog.com
Thanks.
