Don’t think you’re a Marketer? OR know you’re a great one? We want to chat with you.

We’re seeking a full-time gritty, practical outbound marketer, who’s smart, innovative, and can write, who doesn’t like the rule-heavy culture of large companies, and who looks at our products and what we do and says “gosh, that’s great!”…

…and who wants to help us convey that message to other people in a method sufficiently compelling as to get them to buy software from us. (OK, yes, we’re hiring you to an outbound marketing role).

You will report directly to VP Marketing, in our small (but rapidly expanding) marketing team. We're a C-round, venture-backed, 50-person startup, with dramatically increasing marketing needs as we’ve become allied with some large partners and our sales (and sales force) have increased. We reward creativity and execution generously. Come join us.

This position offers the opportunity for you to work with and learn from experienced managers, each with mover 15 years of experience building and running some of the best-known companies in Silicon Valley (think VMware, Oracle, 3Com, EMC). You will also have a meaningful equity stake in a firm that is at the cutting edge of virtualization technology, one of the hottest spaces in the industry. This job is perfect for somebody who is looking for the action and growth available in a hot startup, combined with the safety of great venture backing and the knowledge you’ll gain transferrable knowledge, a great personal network, and an exit strategy that’s much lower risk than “get bought by Google or die”.

Brilliance, high energy, writing / powerpoint abilities, and some technical understanding matter more than experience – we’ll fill in the marketing part on the fly.

Brilliance: don’t wait to be told what to do. Come tell the VP you’ve done what was asked, and you also thought up a better way to do it, and what we should also be doing.

High energy: checking 20 things off your to-do list in a day makes you feel happier – even if you started the day with only 10 things.

Writing / powerpoint abilities: you can explain what the company does and why it’s so useful to different types of people in a only a few words, or pages – and you want to.

Additionally… You must believe that 80% perfect but done fast beats 100% perfect done slow – but you can do both. You don’t need to have to be able to write code – we want someone who can market, write and explain benefits – but you should at least know what a SAN and a hypervisor are.

Also, the more of the following experience you have, the more interested we are:

+ Write “no-buzzword”, very plain business-oriented powerpoint, articles, email, direct mail, or customer case studies, and/or edit whitepapers & solution guides written by others.

+ Technical undergraduate degree or demonstrated technical understanding & comfort with enterprise software. MBA appreciated. Server management, or storage management, or network management software products and marketplace a plus.

+ High energy, enthusiasm, initiative, preparedness and “cool under fire”.

+ Coordinate (haggle with and manage) vendors for marketing services: everything from fast turnaround of flash and fancy web CGI to events.
